The article “Beards, Breasts, And Bodies Doing Sex in A Gendered World” by Raine Dozier, starts off talking about the differences between sex and gender. It talks about how the words sex and gender are increasingly being used interchangeably. It also talks about how gender becomes all the more important when the person’s behaviour doesn’t align with the stereotype of their assigned sex. Both these highly interlinked constructs deeply affect a person’s sexuality. This binary perception of gender deeply affects everyone and leaves no space for transgenders in the society.

The article “Decolonizing Transgender in India Some Reflections” by Aniruddha Dutta and Raina Roy, talks about the treatment of transgenders and how initially only 2 sexes were recognised and people with differing gender identities were categorised into the blanket term of transgenders. This term also included people from the LGBT community irrespective of whether they were men or women. The social class of a person plays an important role in ascertaining their assigned sex. The author goes on to talk about the importance of an individual transgender identity separate from the one in use which just uses a umbrella term to define their identities and rights.
