The article “Beards, Breasts, And Bodies Doing Sex in A Gendered World” by Raine Dozier talks about the difference between gender and sex and how they are misconstrued to be the same, by many. The author brings to light the fact that both gender and sex are social constructs- in a way that sexuality is not dependent on social interactions, but something that comes from the individual from within.
The author goes on to talk about transgendered people and why they are not perceived or looked at in the same view as the male gender and the female gender are. He says that it is often seen that transgender people find their place in no particular category and hence they are not accepted as much in society. Society tends to overlap the concepts of masculinity and femininity, which is why, the female gender is connected to characteristics of femininity and the male gender is connected to characteristics of masculinity. When the concept of hormones become complicated, that is when transgender people fall out of place.
