In Night to his day: The Social Construction of Gender, Judith Lorber, explains how gender is a social construct. He talks about how gender is used as a tool create uniformity in the society so that it brings order to the way people live their lives. These gender roles that have been constructed highly affect the social life of an individual, they affect his/her status, responsibilities and even create different set of rights and privileges. These processes take away the right of an individual to live like they would want, society takes away their free will and molds them into beings that would fit properly into the society. On the other hand we have Emily Martin who in her article, The Egg and the Sperm: How Science Has Constructed a Romance Based on Stereotypical Male Female Roles showcases how sexism has deeply engraved itself even in scientific journals. She writes about how the sperm cell is presented like a stronger and valiant fighter while the egg cell is presented as a damsel in distress who will be saved from getting wasted by being fertilized by the sperm cell. She showcases how gender roles and stereotypes are even projected on the sex cells of the two genders.
