Gender as a concept has failed to evolve in the society we live. Right from the moment a child takes birth to the later stages of his or her life, gender plays a pivotal role in determining how the individual will be looked upon or treated. Gender disparity has taken such a toll on human life that at this it is hard to even recognise particularly where Gender differentiation is done for the particular reason that it is considered a part of the routine lives that we as individuals lead. Though Gender is not just divided into two categories of male and female, because of the social construct of how genders are perceived, genders like Transgenders and Transvestites , who are identified as the third gender, have to go through brutal processes like sex-change operations in order to get the recognition and validations of the society to be seen as a signification human being with an identity of his/her own. Not just that societal distinctions identify males and female differently but their physical features are molded to suit those taboos right since their birth.
Where on one hand gender for society is a source of identification of individuals, for the same individuals it is a way to represent their personalities and how they see things in a different light. So gender continues to play a significant role in our lives but to each, his own.
