Gayle S Rubin in her article, Thinking Sex: Notes for a Radical Theory of the Politics of Sexuality conveys the use of sex as way of dominance and implementing subjugation in the current western society. She argues how sex is used as a political agent, sex cannot be termed as a private entity as with the help of power and dominance of the state and the government it has been turned into a public affair. For instance she mentioned incidents which show a gruesome and immoral behaviour towards the homosexuals by beating them up at bars and other public places in the 1940s. There was no scope for sexual liberation. There is an inherent hierarchal caste system that has been created by sexual repression, which has given certain sexual identities dominance over the others. As mentioned by Rubin, the “erotic pyramid” where on the top consists of married people who are heterosexuals whose sole purpose is for reproduction, below them constitutes of unmarried heterosexuals followed by the most despised class which consists of transsexuals, transvestites, sexual workers etc concluded by the lowest of all who erotic desires transgress generational boundaries. Overall this articles expresses , sexuality is perceived from the society and how it changes over the course of time. The society defines sexuality and is interpreted in various ways which influences the societal mindset as a whole.
