I shall be summarising Rape Cultures in India by Pratiksha Baxi. The author starts by saying that the administration while planning the construction of Delhi did not keep women's safety in mind. The city of Delhi comprises majorly of heterosexist men. There's isn't a proper system of surveillance in place for both private and public transport services. Even a lot of the city's streets fail to have basic lighting. The administration has never been held accountable for its lack of measures taken toward's women's safety as that isn't something they have every considered in their planning committees. The city's police target women's lifestyle and their clothes rather than te sexual offenders. The Judiciary interprets rape being a product of passion and lust and are kind of sympathetic towards the rapists. Almost every person in law enforcement, judiciary and politicians alike blame the victim themselves for the act of rape. The country's rape culture rises when these politicians normalise sexual violence. Baxi concludes the piece by voicing out the importance of a higher level of intolerance against any act on the spectrum of sexual violence against women and this stance is the one that desperately requires to be adapted in solidarity.
