Rape Cultures in India

Pratiksha Baxi, in her article, Rape cultures in India begins by showing her disappointment towards lack of administration in preventing Sexual Violence. She talks about the nature rape and how rape is compared with sex. She also talks about the existence of victim blaming and how instead of focussing on the rapists the courts are more concerned with the character of the victim. She further mentions the humiliation that rape survivors undergo. The parliamentary talk on rape is utilized as a device for legislative issues and accordingly reaffirms assault culture. There is an enormous incongruity related with the ideological groups, especially the conservative, requesting harsher laws to rebuff the attackers without recognizing that they themselves have been liable for the arrangement and spread of assault culture in our general public. Rape is also used as a tool to put women in their place and not let them raise their voice when being wronged. Baxi needs us to stand firm against the government officials, planers and the authorities who centre around hushing the explicitly ambushed casualties as opposed to rebuffing the attackers.
