The Abducted Woman in the House
The author draws a line between the "rape culture"
perpetrated by the Patriarchal nature of the Indian Society and is legitimized
by both "immunity" and "impunity" and is not just a matter
of lack of security and safety for women. The writer supports her claim by saying
how the Indian Penal Code established that a married woman can never be raped,
let alone other sexual violence. Various feminist discourses have come up such
as the recommendations made by the Justice Verma Committee, which started to
recognize numerous offences against the vulnerable community of women and the
LGBT+ community. Yet, despite these progressive attempts, because of the patriarchal
prejudice that lingers at the back of society at large, India as a country always
has taken more steps backward than it has taken forward.
