The Sex Worker’s Manifesto

SUMMARY

This article talk about the injustices and atrocities sex worker’s have to face due to the stringent patriarchal norms. It talks about how society plays a very important and disturbing factor in their professional and personal lives. It argues as to why sex work is not considered as a profession even though it is probably one of the oldest profession because it meets a social demand. Another mkajor point of argument which was put forth in this article, was the way society perceive sex workers and their families. Due to patriarchy, sex workers are considered to be ‘fallen’. They are usually treated like dirt by the society and the other men who take the service. Especially women sex worker’s, also known as prostitutes. They are often considered to be someone who destroys the family, when in general, the “wife” of the family herself faces the same injust, discrimantory behaviour by their husbands and in-laws. The sex workers movement is not against men. It’s against the society. It is against patriarchy. It’s against they way society treats them. Sex worker’s  movement has two principle perspectives. The first one is to debate, define and re-define the whole host of issues about gender, poverty, sexuality that are being thrown up within the process of the struggle itself. Secondly, the daily oppression that is practised on us with the support of the dominant ideologies, have to be urgently and consistently confronted and resisted. This movement is for everyone who strives for an equal, just,

equitable, oppression free and above all a happy social world. Sexuality, like class and

gender after all makes us what we are. To deny its importance is to accept an

incomplete existence as human beings. Sexual inequality and control of sexuality

engender and perpetuate many other inequalities and exploitation too. We re faced with

situation to shake the roots of all such injustice through our movement.
